To keep your sofa looking neat and stylish while extending its lifespan, regular maintenance is essential. Here are some important tips for daily care: 1. Place the sofa on a flat, even surface, ensuring soft pads are positioned under each of the four corners to prevent scratches or damage to the floor during movement. 2. Before use, gently wipe the sofa’s surface with a clean, soft cloth to remove dust and dirt. If the sofa is made of cowhide (genuine leather), apply a leather conditioner by lightly rubbing it onto the surface one or two times before sitting down. This helps create a protective layer that prevents dirt from penetrating deep into the leather’s pores, making future cleaning much easier. 3. Avoid jumping on the sofa seat, as this can cause localized pressure and deformation, compromising both comfort and structural integrity. 4. Keep sharp objects or knives away from the sofa’s fabric surfaces to prevent unsightly cuts or tears. 5. Protect the sofa from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which can cause the leather to warp, lose elasticity, or fade unevenly over time. If the sofa is frequently exposed to sunlight, rotate its position periodically to minimize noticeable color variations. 6. Avoid exposing the sofa to excessive moisture or rain, as this can lead to leather swelling, loosening, loss of elasticity, discoloration, or even mold growth. In humid conditions, you can occasionally expose the sofa to mild morning sunlight (between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM) for about an hour each day—ideally once every three months—to help maintain its condition. 7. **Daily Maintenance:** Regularly clean any water stains or spills on the fabric using a soft, dry cloth. For hard-to-reach areas like crevices between the backrest, armrests, and seat cushions, use a vacuum cleaner to remove debris. Never use wet cloths, abrasive materials, or harsh chemicals like acids or alkalis, as these can damage the fabric’s surface and reduce its longevity. 8. **Regular Maintenance Schedule:** - For cowhide sofas, the porous nature of the leather means it requires seasonal care similar to human skin. During dry seasons, clean and condition the leather every two months; in normal weather conditions, perform maintenance every 3–4 months. - Cotton, linen, synthetic fiber, and other textile fabrics should be professionally dry-cleaned rather than washed, as they are sensitive to acidic substances. Bleaching is strictly prohibited. If loose threads appear, avoid pulling them out—instead, carefully trim them with scissors. 9. Prevent stains from oil, ballpoint pens, ink, or other substances. If accidental spills occur, promptly clean the affected area with a leather-specific cleaner. If no dedicated cleaner is available, gently dab the stain with a small amount of alcohol applied to a clean white cloth, then blot dry with another damp cloth. Finish by applying a leather protector. Note that this method cannot be used on suede sofas (except for minor oil stains); instead, lightly brush the surface with a fine copper brush to restore its original appearance. 10. Ensure the sofa has adequate space—leave a gap of 5–10 mm around it—and maintain proper ventilation to prevent moisture buildup. 11. If any moving parts become stiff or if metal components or joints feel loose, tighten the connecting screws or lubricate the moving parts as needed. 12. If the paint on wooden armrests turns pale due to excessive contact with moisture, cover the affected area with a warm, damp towel until the discoloration fades.
