To keep your sofa looking neat and beautiful while extending its lifespan, regular maintenance is essential. Here are some important tips for daily use:
1. Place the sofa on a flat floor and ensure soft pads are positioned under all four corners to prevent damage to the flooring when moving it.
2. Before use, gently wipe the sofa surface with a clean, soft cloth to remove dust and dirt. If the sofa is made of cowhide (genuine leather), apply a leather conditioner by lightly rubbing it onto the surface one or two times before use (avoid using wax-based products). This will help create a protective layer on the leather, preventing dirt from easily penetrating the pores and making future cleaning much easier.
3. Avoid jumping on the sofa seat to prevent localized compression, which could cause deformation and affect usability.
4. Avoid contact with sharp-edged tools or knives to prevent scratching the fabric.
5. Avoid prolonged exposure of the sofa to sunlight, as this can cause the leather upholstery to warp and lose its elasticity. If the sofa is frequently exposed to direct sunlight, periodically adjust the positions of a few cushions to prevent noticeable color variations.
6. Avoid leather surface swelling, loosening, and loss of elasticity—or discoloration, fading, or mold growth—caused by rain exposure or excessive humidity. In conditions of high humidity, you can gently expose the leather to weak morning sunlight (between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.) for 1 hour each day, repeating this process about once every three months over a period of 7 days.
7. Daily Maintenance: Regularly wipe away water stains or dirt from the fabric using a clean, soft cloth. A vacuum cleaner can be used to remove debris from the seams where the backrest, armrests, and seat meet. Avoid using wet cloths, hard objects, or harsh chemicals like acids and alkalis on the fabric, as these could damage its surface quality and reduce its lifespan.
8. Regular Maintenance: Cowhide leather has natural pores, making it easy to care for—just like human skin—throughout both dry and wet seasons. During the dry season, clean and oil the leather every two months; in the normal season, perform maintenance every 3 to 4 months. For fabrics like cotton, linen, and synthetic fibers, always have them professionally dry-cleaned rather than washed with water, as these materials are sensitive to acidic substances and should never be bleached. If you notice any loose threads, avoid pulling or breaking them off with your hands—instead, carefully trim them neatly using scissors.
9. Avoid staining the sofa with oil, ballpoint pen marks, ink, or other substances. If accidental spills occur, promptly clean the sofa using a leather cleaner. If no leather cleaner is available, gently dab the stain with a clean white towel lightly moistened with rubbing alcohol, then blot dry with another damp cloth. Finally, apply a protective treatment to maintain the leather’s condition. Note that matte leather sofas should not be cleaned using the methods above (except when oil stains are present)—instead, you can carefully brush them with a fine copper brush to restore their original beauty.
10. Leave a 5-10mm gap around the sofa to ensure proper ventilation.
11. When the sofa's moving parts are stiff or metal components and connectors are loose, tighten the connecting screws or apply an appropriate amount of lubricant.
12. When the paint on the wooden handrail turns white due to excessive contact with moist objects, cover it with a warm, damp towel until the discoloration disappears.
